Beginning Weaving on Treadle Looms:   Beginner
This class teaches the basics of tapestry technique. You will learn to weave simple pictorial designs incorporating stripes, angles, and vertical lines. If time allows students can delve into other tapestry techniques such as blending, ojos, hatching and others. You will weave a piece twelve inches wide and however long you make it. Design is up to you; I help you with the techniques! This class is taught on Spanish style floor looms called walking looms. These are similar to other horizontal floor looms except that they are designed for the weaver to stand instead of sit. These looms are used today throughout New Mexico and Mexico.

Navajo Style Weaving:    Beginner
This class is taught on Navajo style frame looms. These looms are a portable and simple in design. This is a slower way of weaving when compared to weaving on floor looms; however many weavers prefer the Navajo system over the large treadle  floor loom. Techniques taught in the three day class will include: complete set up of a Navajo loom, designing and executing a tapestry including stripes, angles and vertical lines. If time allows students can delve into techniques such as blending, ojos, hatching and others. Tapestry techniques taught in this class are the same as those taught in Beginning Weaving and will transfer to weaving on floor looms.
Cost for 3 Day Intensive - $350

Advanced Weaving:    Intermediate to Advanced
This class is now offered only by appointment as it is designed for the individual student or group of students. This is for those who know some or a lot of basic weaving and wish to expand their knowledge. At this point a student can branch off in a certain direction: complicated pictorial tapestry technique, multiharness weaves (such as double weave, twill, overshot), wearable weaves... the sky is the limit. Interested students should contact the instructor (info at the top of the page) to find a time and direction for a particular class.
Cost for 3 Day Intensive - $350      Or $120 per day (max 4 days)

Warping Workshop:     Beginner
This is a one day class focusing on warping floor looms. It is offered every Monday after Beginning Weaving and Advanced Weaving classes. Students will plan a warp, wind it, learn to thread it, and roll it on the loom. Students can all plan a second warp using Weaving Southwest's worsted wool warp to wind and take home with them. This repetition helps to instill the technique.
Cost for One Day Course - $125
Private Instruction:    All Levels
Private weaving instruction is available. To set up a time to do a private lesson contact Kim (info at the top of the page). We would love to help you work out a problem or start from the beginning! Please keep in mind that weaving can not be learned in an hour or even in a day- you need to have some time to devote in order to master the technicalities of the craft. You will receive a lot of personal attention in our classes because class sizes are very small. However, if you have a specific area you need help in, or can't find a class on the schedule that suits your needs and interests, private instruction may be for you!
Cost: $25 per hour

Special Classes: These classes are offered once in a while especially in the summer and are designed for larger groups. (No more than 8, no less than 1!) Stay tuned for more topics!

Backstrap Weaving:     Beginner - Advanced
This course explores the fascinating and versatile uses for the backstrap loom.
The backstrap loom is simple in design, consisting of some straight sticks, rope
and a strap behind the weaver's back.  It is the only system I have found that
allows you carry your whole project with you in your backpack or purse! The
backstrap loom is used today all over the world by women and men on the go, and
of exquisite weaving traditions. Each member of the class will learn to warp a
backstrap loom, plan a project and execute a weaving. This class is for first time
weavers as well as expert weavers who want to try something new.
